History

Pune Railway Police district was established in 1938. Then it was called as “Central South West Railway District”. It was British era and Railway was important to the Raj, as it helped in movement of the armed forces. After the Independence and formation of linguistic States, it was named as “Pune Railway District” and covered half the Maharashtra including Mumbai. The first SP of this newly formed district as Pune Railway was Shri A.R. Braganza. On 01/05/1981, for administrative convenience, this district was spilt again. A separate Police commissionerate was formed for Mumbai and adjoining regions and Superintendent of Police, Pune Railway was made responsible for rest of the previous Jurisdiction. At present S.P. GRP Pune comprises of six Police Stations- 1.Pune 2.Daund 3. Ahilyanagar 4. Kurduwadi 5.Solapur 6. Miraj and the entire Jurisdiction covers Railway lines in nine districts - 1.Raigad 2. Pune 3.Solapur 4.Osmanabad 5.Latur 6. Satara 7. Kolhapur 8.Sangli 9.Ahmednagar.
